Coach Berryhill is originally from Bradenton, FL. He attended Southwest Baptist University and has a degree in Sports Management and Sports Medicine. Coach Berryhill has 30 years experience in his field with 26 of those years here at Pine Tree. He also spent 3 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kerry LaneHead Football / Asst Athletic Director
Coach Lane and his wife Jamie have two sons, Trey (6) who attends Pine Tree Primary and Tyler (2). Coach Lane comes to Pine Tree from Gilmer ISD where he was their passing game coordinator. He has also coached at Arp, Gladewater and Waskom. Coach Lane helped lead the Gilmer football team to be State Champions in 2014, a season where they scored 950 points (2nd most all time in Texas High School football). They were State semi-finalist in 2015 and State finalist in 2012. He also helped coach the track team to a State Championship in 2015. [email protected] |
Jason Bachman
Offensive Coordinator
Jason graduated from Evangel Christian Academy in 2005, where he was a part of three state championships. He attended Louisiana Tech and graduated with a General Studies Degree with a Minor in Psychology. He returned to Evangel Christian Academy and coached receivers and was a part of a state runner up and state championship teams. He then moved on to Calvary Baptist, in Shreveport Louisiana and coached receivers his first year and then took on the role of Offensive Coordinator. Coach Bachman was the Offensive Coordinator for back to back State Championships at Calvary Bapitst. (2013 & 2014)

Brandon BoyceCoach Boyce will be coaching JH track along with HS football and will be teaching on our PACE campus. He and his wife Selena have an 8 month old daughter named Cassidy. In 2006 Coach Boyce was the UIL Region II-AAA high jump champion, UIL State track & field 3-A high jump – 5th place and UIL district track champ. He was also a two year varsity basketball starter.

Matthew BryantCoach Bryant is from Gilmer, TX. He attended the University of Texas at Tyler and earned a Bachelors of Science, majoring in History with a minor in Social Studies. Coach Bryant has six years coaching experience and this is his third year at Pine Tree. His experience includes an internship with Grace Community School in Tyler (2008-09), Brownsboro (2010-11), and Commerce (2012-13). Coach Bryant has been married to his wife Amanda for 6 years and they have a 3 year old daughter named Elizabeth and and 20 month old son named Turner. He likes to spend time with his family and likes to hunt and fish as much as he can. He absolutely loves coaching and the game of football; it provides a wonderful opportunity for many of our young men.

Kyle BurnsJH Boy’s Coordinator
Coach Burns is originally from Pittsburg, TX. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University and has a Bachelors of Science degree. Coach Burns has 18 years coaching experience, with 15 of those at Pine Tree. His experience includes various positions/sports from JH to HS at Union Grove (2007-2010) and two stints at Pine Tree (1999-2007 & 2010-present). Mike DarbyCoach Darby has been coaching at Pine Tree for 35 years. He is our head cross-country boys/girls coach and the HS track coordinator. Coach Darby has been married for 35 years to Karen Darby, who has taught for 20 years at PT Junior High. They have three children who have all graduated from Pine Tree, Drew (31), Jay (29), and Sarah (27). Coach Darby is a 1976 graduate of Vidor High School and East Texas Baptist College in 1981.

Telvin DardenCoach Darden is a graduate of Overton High School. This is his first year of coaching at Pine Tree and he will be teaching World Geography. He will also be coaching JH basketball and track. Coach Darden played baseball for Northeast Texas CC and Southern Arkansas University and was a member of three conference championship teams. He graduated from UT Tyler. Coach Darden and his finance Courtney have a three year old son named Jaxon.

Coach Denkins is from Longview, TX and is an alumnus of Pine Tree High School. He attended East Texas Baptist University and received his B.S. in Athletic Training. He has nine years experience with all nine years being here at Pine Tree. Coach Denkins is not married, but has 1 kid…a 75 lb. English Bulldog named Bentley. [email protected] |
Donnie DenmanCoach Denman is a 1989 graduate of Spring Hill High School. He graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 1994 with a B.S. in Education. He and his wife Amy have two children, Caroline (8) and Talon (3). Coach Denman’s previous coaching experience includes Pleasant Grove (five years), Hallsville (two years), Spring Hill (six years), and Harmony (four years). Coach Denman will also be Pine Tree’s head powerlifting coach and will teach credit recovery and physical education.

Paul EllsworthCoach Ellsworth is entering his eleventh year of coaching and teaching. This will be his fourth year with Pine Tree, with the previous seven years at Marshall ISD. Coach Ellsworth is a 2005 graduate of Stephen F Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science in History and Kinesiology. He will be teaching Texas History at the junior high and will also coach junior high football and basketball. He also coaches softball at the high school. Coach Ellsworth and his wife April have been married 28 years and have a three year old daughter named Peyton Brooke. Coach Ellsworth is looking forward to a great year with his students both in the classroom and on the field of play.

Alton HawkinsCoach Hawkins is from Longview, TX. He attended Henderson State University where he earned his B.S. in Business. Coach Hawkins has been coaching for 23 years with 16 of those years at Pine Tree. He has also coached at Mt. Pleasant HS. Coach Hawkins has been married to his wife Deidre for 24 years and their daughter Debra (17) is a senior at PT High School. Their son Victor (21) also graduated from Pine Tree. Coach Hawkins is also the proud pastor of Watts Chapel CME Church.

Jermaine LewisCoach Lewis was born in Houston, TX, and is a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vagas (UNLV). He and his wife Nekeshia have two children, Kollin (11) and Lanlestyn (7). Coach Lewis will be coaching varsity football and boys basketball for Pine Tree and previously coached at Gladewater HS. While there, Coach Lewis led the boys basketball team to become district champs (2015-16) and was named 16-4A Coach of the Year. Basketball has made it possible for him to travel the world playing in places such as China, Saudia Arabia, Syria and Amsterdam.

Garrett MethvinCoach Methvin graduated with honors from Spring Hill High School in 2009. He and his wife Leighchele and three children, Elijah (4), Lilly (3) and Adileigh (1). He played baseball at the University of Arkansas before transferring to LeTourneau University in the fall of 2010 where he finished his career. While at LeTourneau he received numerous honors and awards and helped them win its first ever ASC Championship in any sport. He graduated from LeTourneau with a 3.9 GPA majoring in Kinesiology and is currently working on his Masters in Education. He has coached baseball the last two years at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, TX. Coach Methvin has been a Youth Pastor the last 3 years at New Heights Church in Longview. He feels extremely blessed and is excited God has opened the door for him to be back in his home town. Coach Methvin is looking forward to a great year, and is thankful for the opportunity presented here at Pine Tree.

Trenady OffermannCoach Offermann is from New Braunfels, TX and graduated from New Braunfels Canyon High School in 1996. He has three daughters Mickayla (14), Haylee (11), and Madyson (8). This is his first year coaching and first year at Pine Tree, after spending seventeen years active duty in the Air Force. Eleven years enlisted and six years as a commissioned officer; separated as a captain; deployed to – Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Italy and Germany. Coach Offermann received his bachelor’s degree from Park University in social psychology (3.94 GPA); and received his master’s degree from American Military University in sports management (3.97 GPA). He will be coaching football and track at Pine Tree HS and will be in the classroom as a Special Education Inclusion teacher.

Trevor PetersenCoach Petersen is from Hallsville, TX. He attended Louisiana Tech University and received a degree in general studies. He also played baseball at Louisiana Tech and was drafted out of high school by the Tampa Bay Rays. Coach Peterson coached baseball at Ruston HS in Ruston, LA for one year and is now in his third year at Pine Tree. His parents are Jason and Brenda Petersen, and his siblings are Brandon (22) and Amanda (19).

Rachael PhillipsATC – Athletic Trainer
Rachael is from Port Aransas, TX and attended Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi where she received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. This is her second year at Pine Tree as a proud Pine Tree Pirate! Her previous experience includes working with Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi’s men’s basketball, men & women’s track and cross country, and various high school sports at Mary Carroll High School as an athletic training student. Her parents are Robert and Emily Phillips, and her siblings are Lia and Ozzie. She and her boyfriend, Keiron Spivey enjoy watching baseball games and taking their dogs Momo and Jack to the park. Rodick PortleyCoach Portley is a graduate of Texas A&M – Commerce and earned his bachelors of science degree in kinesiology and sports studies. He and his wife Regina have two children, Dominique (21) who is a senior at the University of Texas in Austin, and Adrian (19) a sophomore at Texas A&M – Commerce. He has coached previously at Overton HS. Coach Portley’s powerlifting team won two state championships at Overton HS and he is currently the Texas High School women’s powerlifting association Region 3, Div 3 director. He will be coaching football and powerlifting for us at Pine Tree HS.

J.D. RichardsonCoach Richardson was born and raised in White Oak Texas where he graduated in 2011. He attended East Texas Baptist University where he played basketball and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Coach Richardson coached at White Oak High School last year, but this is his first teaching job. He will be teaching Junior High PE and coaching football, basketball and track. Coach Richardson is engaged to his fiancé Brianne Doyen and they will be getting married in June 2017.

Wesley SchoonCoach Schoon is a graduate of Harmony High School. He played football and baseball at East Texas Baptist University (2012-13) and is a recent graduate of Tarleton State University where he majored in Kinesiology Fitness Management. This is his first year of coaching at Pine Tree.

David SheppardCoach Sheppard is from Henderson, TX. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science. Coach Sheppard has twelve years coaching experience and this is his second year with Pine Tree. This will be his eleventh year as a head baseball coach, and most recently spent three seasons in Center, where they were eliminated in the Area round in 2014 and the Regional Semifinals in 2015. Coach Sheppard and his beautiful wife Heather have been married for 14 years and have 2 children, Cy (8) and Cara (4).

Brent SimmonsCoach Simmons enters his third year at the helm of the Pine Tree High School Swim Team, and his seventh year overall in the District. Simmons is a 2006 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, with a degree in Radio/Television Communication. Prior to taking over the reigns of the Pine Tree Swim Team, Simmons served for two years at Pine Tree Junior High, where he coached Football, Basketball, and Track. Simmons currently teaches Digital Media at the high school. Simmons is married to the former Brittany Rountree of Hallsville and they have a three year-old daughter, Brinley.

Tyler SimmonsCoach Simmons is married to Paige Simmons and they have three children, Mack (4), Sarah (1) and Hallie (2 months). He will be coaching football and track at Pine Tree and will be teaching Economics. Coach Simmons has previously coached at Marshall, Quitman, Spring Hill and Pittsburg and was a member of the “Coaching Staff of the Year” at Pittsburg HS in 2015.
