Jody Berryhill – Athletic Director
Coach Berryhill is originally from Bradenton, FL. He attended Southwest Baptist University and has a degree in Sports Management and Sports Medicine. Coach Berryhill has 31 years experience in his field with 28 of those years here at Pine Tree. He also spent 3 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Berryhill and his wife Theresa of 34 years have 2 daughters who are both graduates of Pine Tree and 2 sons-in-law who wish they had attended Pine Tree. Most importantly, he has the “World’s Best Granddaughters, Ella Kate and Olivia Ryan!” |
Kerry Lane – Head Football / Asst Athletic Director
Coach Lane and his wife Jamie have two sons, Trey (8) who attends Pine Tree Elementary and Tyler (4). He is a graduate of Union Grove HS and Stephen F. Austin State University. This will be Coach Lane’s third year leading the Pirates, coming from Gilmer ISD where he was their passing game coordinator. He has also coached at Arp, Gladewater, and Waskom. Coach Lane helped lead the Gilmer football team to be State Champions in 2014, a season where they scored 950 points (2nd most all time in Texas High School football). They were State semi-finalist in 2015 and State finalist in 2012. He also helped coach the track team to a State Championship in 2015. |
Jason Bachman
Coach Bachman is our football offensive coordinator and receivers coach. He will also coach track and teach P.E. at the high school. Coach Bachman comes to Pine Tree from Calvary (2010-2016) and Evangel (2008-2009). Coach Bachman played receiver in high school and won 3 state championships in 2001, 2002 and 2004. As their receivers coach, he helped coach Evangel to state finalist in 2008 and to a state championship in 2009. He also coached Calvary to back to back state champions in 2013 and 2014 as their offensive coordinator. |
Brandon Boyce
Coach Boyce is from Longview, TX. He attended Angelo State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a minor in Kinesiology. Coach Boyce is entering his third year in coaching and will be teaching Elementary Education on our PACE campus. He will also be coaching HS junior varsity basketball and junior high track. He and his wife Selena have a 3 year old daughter named Cassidy. In 2006 Coach Boyce was the UIL Region II-AAA high jump champion, UIL state track & field 3-A high jump – 6th place. He was also a two year varsity basketball starter at Longview high school. |
Matthew Bryant
Coach Bryant is from Gilmer, TX. He graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2010 where he earned his Bachelor of Science, majoring in History with a minor in Social Studies. Coach Bryant’s experience includes an internship with Grace Community School in Tyler (2008-09), Brownsboro (2010-11), and Commerce (2012-13). He has been at Pine Tree since 2014. Coach Bryant and his wife Amanda have two children, Elizabeth and Turner. |
Kyle Burns – JH Boys' Coordinator
Coach Burns is originally from Pittsburg, TX. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University and has a Bachelor of Science degree. Coach Burns has 20 years coaching experience, with 17 of those at Pine Tree. His experience includes various positions/sports from JH to HS at Union Grove (2007-2010) and 2 stints at Pine Tree (1999-2007 & 2010-present). Coach Burns and his wife Tina have 2 children, son Kole (15) and daughter Taylor (23). |
Mike Darby
Coach Darby has been coaching at Pine Tree for 37 years. He is our head cross-country boys/girls coach and the HS track coordinator. Coach Darby has been married for 37 years to Karen Darby, who has taught for 22 years at PT Junior High. They have three children who have all graduated from Pine Tree, Drew (34), Jay (32), and Sarah (30). Coach Darby is a 1976 graduate of Vidor High School and East Texas Baptist College in 1981. |
Telvin Darden
Coach Darden is a graduate of Overton High School. He attended the University of Texas at Tyler where he received his Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences. This is his third year coaching at Pine Tree. He will be teaching World Geography and coaching Baseball, JH football and basketball. Coach Darden played baseball for Northeast Texas CC and Southern Arkansas University. During that time, he was a member of three conference championship teams. He and his fiancé Courtney have two children, Jaxon and Dawson. |
Cody Ellis
Coach Ellis is our Strength & Conditioning Director and is in his 14th year coaching at the High School and Collegiate level. He holds a Master of Education in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler. He is certified by the USAW as a Sports Performance Coach and the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancing Specialist. Coach Ellis is also Safe Sport Certified and has completed the USADA 2019 Coach’s Advantage Program. This allows Coach Ellis to become 1 of 75 Strength Coaches in the State of Texas to be named in the directory for the United States of America Weightlifting. Coach Ellis is also a member of the National High School Strength Coaches Association. He played baseball at Tyler Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He returned to coach at Tyler Junior College after graduation from UAM and won a National Championship in 2007 as an assistant coach. Ellis has been a Strength & Conditioning Director at Henderson ISD, Brownsboro ISD, and also Frankston ISD. Coach Ellis and his wife Allison have a 11 year old daughter named Cadence and a 2 year old son named Cannon. |
Zachariary Griffin
Pronounced Zachariary (Zach-a-ri-yah), Coach Griffin is from Beaumont, Texas. He is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University and will be teaching 7th grade math, while coaching football and track.

Alton Hawkins
Coach Hawkins is from Longview, TX. He attended Henderson State University where he earned his B.S. in Business. Coach Hawkins has been coaching for 25 years with 18 of those years at Pine Tree. He has also coached at Mt. Pleasant HS. Coach Hawkins has been married to his wife Deidre for 25 years, and their daughter Debra (19), and son Victor (24) are Pine Tree graduates. He also has three grandchildren, Myrcall (5), Avery (2) and Noah (14 months). Coach Hawkins is also the proud pastor of Pleasant Hill-Leigh CME Church, in Karnack, Texas. |
Jermaine Lewis
Coach Lewis was born in Houston, TX, and is a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). He and his wife Nekeshia have two children, Kollin (13) and Lankstyn (9). Coach Lewis will be in his second year as the Head Boys Basketball coach and will coach varsity football (secondary) for Pine Tree, with previous coaching experience at Gladewater HS. While coaching at Gladewater, Coach Lewis led the boys basketball team to become District Champs (2015-16) for the first time in 20 years and was named 16-4A Coach of the Year. Basketball has made it possible for him to travel the world playing in places such as China, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Amsterdam. |
Garrett Methvin
Coach Methvin graduated with honors from Spring Hill High School in 2009. He and his wife Leighchele have four children, Elijah (6), Lilly (5), Adileigh (3), and Asher (6 months). He played baseball at the University of Arkansas before transferring to LeTourneau University in the fall of 2010 where he finished his career. While at LeTourneau he received numerous honors and awards and helped them win its first ever ASC Championship in any sport. He graduated from LeTourneau with a 3.9 GPA, majoring in Kinesiology. He coached baseball two years at Central Heights High School in Nacogdoches, TX and is in his third season with Pine Tree baseball/football. Coach Methvin is looking forward to another great year, and is thankful for the opportunity presented here at Pine Tree. |
Kenneth Morris
Coach Morris will be coaching football and track for the Pirates and will be working as an Assistant Principal at Pine Tree Middle School. He has 3 children, Dylan (19 yrs) who graduated from PT in 2018 and will be attending TJC this fall, Colton (16 yrs) who will be a junior at New Diana, and Brayden (11 yrs) who will be a 5th grader at PT Middle School. Coach Morris began his coaching career 21 years ago at Euless Trinity and has been an assistant head coach and DC. Out of high school, Coach Morris walked on at TCU to play football and then graduated from Arkansas Tech with a BS in Health/PE. He also earned his Masters in Education from Lamar University. |
Trenady Offermann
Coach Offermann is from New Braunfels, TX and graduated from New Braunfels Canyon High School in 1996. He has three daughters Mickayla (16), Haylee (13), and Madyson (10). This is his third year coaching and third year at Pine Tree, after spending seventeen years active duty in the Air Force. 11 years enlisted and 6 years as a commissioned officer; separated as a captain; deployed to – Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Italy, and Germany. Coach Offermann received his bachelors’ degree from Park University in social psychology (3.94 GPA); and received his masters’ degree from American Military University in sports management (3.97 GPA). He will be coaching football and is the boys head track coach at Pine Tree HS. He will be in the classroom as a Special Education Resource/Inclusion teacher. |
Trevor Petersen
Coach Petersen is from Hallsville, TX. He attended Louisiana Tech University and received a degree in General Studies. He also played baseball at Louisiana Tech and was drafted out of high school by the Tampa Bay Rays. Coach Petersen coached baseball at Ruston HS in Ruston, LA for one year and is now in his fifth year at Pine Tree. Coach Petersen is recently married to Ashley Petersen, who is a graduate of Pine Tree. It is great to be a Pine Tree Pirate! |
Rachael Phillips, LAT, ATC – Assistant Athletic Trainer
Coach Phillips is from Port Aransas, TX and attended Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi where she received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. This is her fourth year at Pine Tree as a proud Pine Tree Pirate! Her previous experience includes working with Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi’s men’s basketball, men & women’s track and cross country, and various high school sports at Mary Carroll High School as an athletic training student. |
Rodrick Portley
Coach Portley is a graduate of Texas A&M – Commerce and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies. He has two children, Dominique (23) who currently works as a Behavioral Therapist for Steps to Progress in Houston, and Adrian (21) is a senior at Texas A&M – Commerce and will graduate Spring 2019. He has coached previously at Overton HS and he is currently the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 3 Div. 1 director. This past season the Lady Pirates won the Region 3 Div. 1 Championship for the first time in school history. He will be coaching football and powerlifting and teaching in the Special Ed. Dept. for us at Pine Tree HS. |
J.D. Richardson
Coach Richardson was born and raised in White Oak, Texas where he graduated in 2011. He attended East Texas Baptist University where he played basketball and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Coach Richardson coached at White Oak High School previously and this is his third year at Pine Tree. He teaches PE at the Junior High and coaches football, basketball, and track. Coach Richardson got married in June 2017 to his wife Bri. They have a daughter, Charli, born in July 2018. |
Angel Rocha
Coach Rocha is a graduate from Tatum High and received his college degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, majoring in English and Spanish. Coach Rocha has been coaching since 2008. He spent four years at Grace Community as a Varsity Defensive Line coach and Assistant Varsity Boys soccer coach, before returning to coach at his alma mater to become the boys Head Soccer coach. At Tatum, he helped build the program and lead it to its UIL berth as well as helping the program reach the playoffs every year. Coach Rocha will be the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Pine Tree as well as assisting with the defensive line in football. |
Steven Rockwell
Coach Rockwell is a 2007 graduate of Ore City HS. He and his wife Kawaljulah have a 20 month old son named Elijah. Coach Rockwell is entering his second year of coaching football, basketball, and track. He will also be teaching Texas History at the JH. He has previous coaching experience at Hawkins HS defensive coordinator in (2016-17) and Ore City (2015-16). At Ore City HS, Coach Rockwell was all-district and all-east Texas RB/LB. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 2012 with a B.B.S. in Sports Fitness and Leisure Studies. He was also a four year starter on the football team and was selected all-conference and all-region RB. |
Wesley Schoon
Coach Schoon is a graduate of Harmony High School. He played football and baseball at East Texas Baptist University (2012-13) and is a graduate of Tarleton State University where he majored in Kinesiology Fitness Management. Coach Schoon is going into his third year teaching and coaching at Pine Tree. |
Tyler Simmons
Coach Simmons is married to Paige Simmons and they have three children, Mack (6), Sarah (3) and Hallie (2). He will be coaching football and track, and teaching Economics in his third year at Pine Tree. Coach Simmons is a 2005 graduate of White Oak High School and has previously coached at Marshall, Quitman, Spring Hill, and Pittsburg. He played football at Trinity Valley Community College and East Texas Baptist University, and graduated from ETBU in 2009. |
Blake Ware
Coach Ware is a graduate of White Oak HS and his previous coaching experience is at White Oak. He started here at Pine Tree in 2017 and coaches JH football as well as Varsity/JV baseball. He also teaches Texas History at the JH. Coach Ware played baseball at Panola College and then at McNeese State University where he set a school record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched, with 26. |
